Coding Bootcamp Fullstack Academy Announces Seed Funding for Alumni Startup: Selected

(NEW YORK, Dec 16, 2016) Fullstack Academy, the Y Combinator-backed top coding bootcamp in the U.S., today announced $20K Seed investment in alumni-founded Selected (www.getselected.co), an online matching and hiring platform for teachers and schools.

“We want to enable our students who are on the verge of entrepreneurship to get that small push they need to go all the way,” said David Yang, Co-founder at Fullstack Academy. “Education is an area I care about personally, as my parents worked in academia, and we really believe in Waine Tam and his team who have already built the best process for matching a qualified teacher with the appropriate school.”

Selected is an online matching platform for K-12 teachers and schools. Over 200 schools in New York City use Selected to contact and hire teachers. Co-founder Waine Tam believes that simplifying the school discovery and matching process, particularly related to school culture, is critical to boosting teacher retention and satisfaction.

On Selected, teachers find their 'best fit' NYC school matches in under two minutes using a preference matching engine. Then, via a common application, they are introduced to 200+ public and private schools in NYC. Schools access a customized pool of compatible candidates actively looking for teaching positions and can contact them directly. This results in a more streamlined and higher quality pipeline of candidates for schools.

Fullstack Academy, which launched in Y Combinator in 2013, has quickly expanded to Chicago from its headquarters in NY. In order to keep pace with demand for great careers in technology across the U.S., a new Remote Immersive and Scholarship Program were introduced. Now entry-level coders with the drive and determination it takes to succeed have access to Fullstack and their top placement rates from anywhere in the world. Through the Fullstack Fund, select alumni get access to more than just money. Inspired by Y Combinator, Fullstack Academy Co-founders David Yang and Nimit Maru provide mentorship across minimum viable product (MVP); pitching, user acquisition and the connections that it takes to succeed in venture capital backed entrepreneurship.
